In 1928, only two years after it opened, the Valentine Gallery was dubbed a "temple of modernism" by art critic Henry McBride. The gallery earned this reputation because of Dudensing's commitment to showing the finest examples of modern art. A number of paintings and sculptures that he sold to his clientele are in the collections of U.S. museums today.
